The Telltales

I’m No Fool

When I was found all washed a’wreck
Like a drowned man on the shore
You knelt down and breathed the sounds
That opened up the door

To places locked and barred away
Like the blackest prison cell
You drew the life up from my heart
Like water from a well

To draw the poison from me with your lips
To drain the wound what miracle is this
To light a flame from ash, recover from a crash, and re-ignite all hopes that had been dashed

Well I’m no fool
But you leave me lost in wonder
I don’t understand
My whole world
Well you’ve torn it all asunder
Remade in your hands

So shaped anew I wept for joy
Like a sinner born again
Scales fell from my weary eyes
And light came flooding in

The twisted angst and bitterness
You washed it all from me
Like rain upon a stricken plain
Or convicts breaking free

Well I’m no fool
But you leave me lost in wonder
I don’t understand
My whole world
Well you’ve torn it all asunder
Remade in your hands
