The Telltales

Market News

I watch the ships come in
I watch them sail again
But less go out than come on in

A budget deficit
A rising tide of debt
A class of folk that never win

Market News reporting
It sounds so cut and dry
To hear the words they’re talking
It’s easy to deny
The human face that lies behind those
Dots upon a graph that’s going down

Talking figures and facts,
It’s all science and maths
Keeps it all under wraps

I pass the homeless man
Avoid his outstretched hand
And move as quickly as I can

I see the jobless queue
A forty-something’s due
A planned retirement unplanned

I face the setting sun
I break into a run
I climb the hill above my street

It makes the people small
I forget I know them all
The shattered lives below my feet

Market News reporting
It sounds so cut and dry
To hear the words they’re talking
It’s easy to deny
The human face that lies behind those
Dots upon a graph that’s going down

Talking figures and facts,
It’s all science and maths
Keeps it all under wraps
